Dark Spiced Negroni
Jul 07, 2026
The Negroni is arguably the most perfect cocktail ever conceived. Equal parts spirit, bitter, and sweet vermouth — stirred, never shaken, always ice cold. The gin version is a classic for good reason. But swap the gin for Landlocked Dark Spiced Rum, and something quietly extraordinary happens.
Rum and Negroni might seem like an unconventional pairing, but consider the flavour logic: Landlocked Dark Spiced Rum brings warmth, depth, and natural spice — qualities that don't just survive in the presence of bitter aperitif and sweet vermouth, they thrive. The bitterness of the aperitif finds a counterpart in the rum's molasses backbone. The sweet vermouth echoes the vanilla and spice notes. The lime twist garnish adds a citrus lift that keeps the whole thing from becoming too heavy.
What you end up with is a Negroni that feels autumnal, contemplative, and deeply satisfying. It's a drink for people who appreciate what happens when two great things are put together without overthinking it.
The method is simple: stir the three ingredients over plenty of ice until cold and well diluted (around 30 seconds), then strain into a lowball glass over a large ice cube. Add a lime coin — cut thin, expressed over the glass to release the oils, then dropped in.
This is a nightcap for all seasons.
